A glimpse into the life of our Eagles Aftercare children
The school day is over, and as you step outside Signal Hill Elementary, you’re greeted by smiling teachers from The Nest. They hand you a pinny to wear—so everyone knows you’re part of the group—and make sure you have all your belongings before heading off.
Together, you decide: Will today’s adventure come first, or will we head straight to The Nest for more playtime? Some days, you and your friends are eager to set off on an outdoor exploration, riding the Bunch Bikes to a nearby playground or nature spot. Other days, you’re ready to unwind at The Nest, diving straight into free play, art, or cozying up with a book.
Back at The Nest, you sit down for afterschool snack, chatting and recharging for the rest of the afternoon. Then, it’s time for a team-building activity—maybe it’s solving a puzzle together, sharing dreams for the future, or playing a movement game to get everyone laughing. These activities often tie into the Owls theme, and as one of the older kids, you love discovering what this month’s theme is and exploring it in your own way.
Afterward, the classroom opens for free play, where you can build, imagine, or create however you like. If you’re feeling artistic, you can head to the Atelier, where teachers have set up an exciting art invitation, offering new materials and techniques to explore.
Before you know it, the afternoon has flown by, and it’s time to head home—filled with stories, creativity, and excitement for tomorrow’s adventures.

At Eagles Enriched Aftercare, we recognize that after a full day of school, children arrive ready for different experiences. Some may be eager for more free play to unwind, while others enjoy engaging in the activities offered by our teachers. We meet each child where they are, understanding that the importance of play at this age remains essential for their growth, well-being, and social development.
We strive to create a home-away-from-home environment, one where every child feels safe, valued, and connected. Our educators take the time to build relationships with each child, recognizing their unique personalities, needs, and interests. We love to chat with the children about their day at school, celebrating their successes and listening to their stories.
When challenges arise, particularly in social-emotional interactions, we offer support and guidance, helping children navigate friendships, resolve conflicts, and build emotional resilience. By staying connected, we are able to enhance their experience in Eagles Enriched Aftercare, providing a meaningful, enriching space where they can continue to grow, learn, and thrive.
Our Hybrid Pedagogical Philosophy
At the heart of our philosophy is JOY—preserving the magic of childhood while fostering a lifelong love of learning. We create meaningful, hands-on, and multidimensional learning experiences that spark curiosity and engagement, ensuring that every child learns through exploration and discovery.
Our pedagogical approach brings together the best elements of various teaching methodologies, philosophies, and environments. We draw inspiration from leading educational theorists and psychologists, including Maria Montessori, Loris Malaguzzi, and Bev Bos, incorporating research-backed best practices. Our approach blends key aspects from world-renowned frameworks such as the Montessori Method, the Reggio Emilia Approach, Waldorf principles, EYFS, The Curiosity Approach, and The Wonder League.
Our Beliefs
At The Nest, we believe that all children are strong, capable, and resilient—full of wonder and knowledge. We present opportunities for hands-on, experiential learning across the five key areas of Montessori education: Practical Life, Sensorial, Mathematics, Language, and Culture.
We honor each child’s voice, providing a space where they can share their ideas, express opinions, and make meaningful connections in their learning journey. Our approach nurtures social responsibility, equality, and emotional growth, incorporating mindfulness rituals and routines to support the whole child.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I communicate with staff?
We use a parent app called Esikidz to communicate with parents. This is where you will sign your child in and out as well as mark them absent. You will also receive messages, photos and documentation through this app.
What are your Aftercare fees?
Please send an email for our most up to date fees.
Our Eagles Erniched Aftercare program fees are based on a 10-month enrollment, divided into monthly payments. You are only charged for the days that you are enrolled for, you are NOT charged for any holidays or closures. You are NOT charged based on attendance.
Depending on your income, you may be able to receive the Affordable Child Care Benefit while attending the Nest.
What days are you closed?
Our school year runs from September to August, and our calendar aligns with Signal Hill Elementary. Upon enrollment, families will receive a school calendar that outlines all holidays and closures. We do not offer aftercare on Signal Hill Elementary early dismissal or days when there is no school attendance (ie Pro D Days, Days in lieu, etc.). If your child attends Ecole la Vallée, please pay close attention to our Nest calendar as the two schools can sometimes have different closures.
